Resurfacing of Barnet Market site? The Barnet Market site was sold to UBS, the owners of The Spires, just before Christmas.   The new owners have employed Quarterbridge, a firm of consultants, to advise them on how to develop the Market.   The Friends of Barnet Market (www.fobm.co.uk)  have lobbied very hard that the first move must be to resurface the site and take down the surrounding boards.     We are very hopeful that there will be a positive decision early in the Spring.   Such a move would make UBS and their managing agents, Savills, very popular in Barnet. Picnic in the Park

A planning team has been formed to organise a street party for our four roads in Calvert Road on Monday, 4th June, 2012.  After a considerable delay, thanks to pressure from one of our High Barnet ward councillors, council officers have finally agreed that we can close Calvert Road on the day.   Unfortunately, they also want Sebright and Puller closed as well for a period.   There will be posters and flyers about this nearer the time.   All sorts of activities are being planned as well as a spread of food.   To mention but a few, there will be a bouncy castle, bands, a street bar from the Sebright Arms, dancing, ….. .   Ticket sellers will be knocking on doors soon, £3.00 for adults, £1.50 for children and concessions. ... read more...

SPACES is an organisation that represents residents in Alston, Calvert, Puller and Sebright Roads of High Barnet in matters relating to planning and traffic.   It was formed in 1995 after a famous fight to prevent the demolition of a house (17 Calvert Road) that was well over 100 years old and the building of a small block of flats instead.   The fight involved over 70 residents going to Hendon Town Hall to influence the decision of a crucial meeting of Barnet Council.   We are often asked what SPACES stands for:   it is Sebright, Puller, Alston and Calvert Environmental Society.   We tend not to advertise this too widely as the “Environmental” tag can be taken to suggest that we have a wider range of activities than is th... read more...
